Buster’s Bookclub, a school based literacy initiative delivered by the KM Charity Team – giving children the knowledge and motivation to lead positive lives, is looking for volunteers to read with children in primary schools in the Dover area.
There is no experience required and training will be given, although volunteers will be expected to commit to a regular day and time for a minimum of one full term – approximately 12 weeks.
Buster’s Book Club is an initiative that encourages children to read with their parents/carers at home, they record the minutes they have read and are rewarded for their efforts with class or individual prizes. It’s a fantastic initiative but there is one flaw – there are a number of children who, for a variety of reasons, don’t get the opportunity to take part as they don’t have people at home to listen to them read and record their minutes, and sadly it is often these young people who need the support the most!
As a Buster’s VIP reader you will be allocated a child to build a relationship with and once a week spend 30 minutes helping with their reading, recording their minutes and giving them the ability to contribute to class and and school rewards.
This is a very rewarding opportunity but please only apply if you can commit on a regular basis – consistency is essential in achieving the goals we want to achieve!
This opportunity would suit anyone of any age who can spare the time. All candidates MUST also be prepared to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
